Beginning Weaving Class 1 & 2
Spring Class Dates:
January 6 - February 24
March 17 - May 5
Tuesdays - Morning and Afternoon Sessions
We are also offering an evening class on Wednesdays. Please see our main course list.
Beginning Weaving 1
In this class you will learn to weave on a floor loom, having lots of fun along the way as you create your own cloth. Using yarns and looms at the RIWC, we’ll cover loom set-up, and all the ways color, patterns and textures add up to make beautiful cloth. No previous experience with looms or weaving is needed. The class is also perfect for rigid heddle weavers who want to try weaving on a floor loom as well anyone wanting a refresher on basic floor loom weaving.
Beginning Weaving 2
This is the continuation of the Beginning Weaving Class. In this class we build on your basic skills in dressing the loom and expand your experience with new woven patterns and yarns. It is open to both students who have completed the Beginning Weaving Class, and to those who already have some background in weaving with a floor loom and would like to refresh their skills and expand their knowledge.
We are going to try a different scheduling format for our Spring classes to better accommodate people’s needs. Each class time will include both instruction by Sarah as well as extended independent weaving time to give you the opportunity to practice what you have learned and/or catch up if you have missed a class. This will also result in a smaller number of students in the instruction time with Sarah each week to be sure you get plenty of attention.
The class times are on Tuesdays:
Morning Session - Instruction = 10:00 - 12:30, Extended weaving time = 12:30 - 3:30PM
Afternoon Session - Instruction = 1:00 - 3:30, Extended weaving time = 9:30 -12:30
We will be limiting each class time to 8 students. If you can only take one class time, we encourage you to register soon!
