Annual Fundraising CampaignDear Weavers and their family, friends, and supporters, It has been an exciting year at the Rhode Island Weaving Center, and we are writing today to give you an update and to ask for your support to continue a vibrant weaving and fiber arts community. Since we opened our doors in July 2021, we have: Taught hundreds of students in multiple weaving classes that included floor, tapestry, rigid heddle, and inkle looms. Hosted a Navajo weaving workshop taught by an internationally known Navajo weaver, which included a presentation to the greater weaving community. Provided wall hangings for a restoration project at a Newport hotel. Exhibited the lifelong weavings of Terese Ridgeway, a well-known weaver from Connecticut, with open times for the community. Received funding from grants from the State of Rhode Island and family trusts. Maintained a high community profile through 9 electronic newsletters and a robust website.
We have a solid foundation in place, but we are not yet totally financially self-sustaining. As a non-profit organization, 100% of our dollars, including your donations, go to operating expenses such as paying rent and utilities, compensating teachers, and purchasing equipment. Our goal for fundraising this year is $15,000 to cover existing operating expenses and continue to acquire weaving tools and equipment to expand our course offerings for 2024. The Rhode Island Weaving Center was created with the vision of establishing a community of weavers where people could continuously learn new weaving skills and other fiber arts in an environment that enhances education, promotes camaraderie, and nurtures creativity. We need your help to keep this dream alive. Your donation will contribute to cover our monthly expenses, helping us to focus on the creative aspects of our organization.
