Summer Classes

Our spring courses (Beginning and Continuing Weaving, Beginning and Continuing Tapestry, and Beginning and Continuing Rigid Heddle) are coming to an end.  As we look forward to summer, we will be changing the timing our offerings to make them shorter in length to better fit around people’s busy schedules. 

• Beginning Weaving – one-week intensive class
  June 20-24, 9:30-4:30

• Rigid Heddle – Tuesday and Thursday afternoons
  June 7-16, 1-4PM

• Band Weaving (Inkle) – Monday mornings
  June 13-27, 10-1PM

Summer Workshops

Our first workshop, Three-Dimensional Tapestry Masks, was a great success!  We have several workshops already scheduled for the summer, including a workshop for children. 

• Beginning Tapestry – Wednesday
  June 15, 9:30-2:30

• Twined Bag – Tuesday mornings

  July 26 and August 2, 10-1

• Textile Art Appreciation for Children, 9:30 - 12:30

  Two sessions, July 13, 14, 15 and August 10, 11, 12

We hope to add a few more workshops for the summer, so please check our website frequently!  If you have some ideas or classes or workshops, please do not hesitate to send us an email.

Our Studio

The RIWC has studio space where you can rent a loom for your personal use.  In addition to using our looms, you can weave with other weavers, sharing ideas and solving problems together. The space is bright and open as we expanded into the whole top floor of the Kenyon Building.  Since our last newsletter we have acquired two 8-shaft looms - a Glimakra and a Tools of the Trade.  And we have a third 8-shaft Toika loom on the way soon.  

Volunteers Needed

We would welcome volunteers to help us keep the Center up and running.  Specifically, we need a few people to help us organize all of the donated books and journals that we have received.  We would like to make these materials open to the weaving community but we need to catalog what we have and create a system to loan materials.  We would also like to offer any duplicate materials to the weaving community free of charge.  Ten hours of time for two people would be plenty to get the job done.  Also, Wakefield RiverFire will be starting on Thursday evening at the end of June and run through August.  We need 3-4 people each night to show people around the RIWC.  

If you have time and are interested in helping, please send us an email.  And, if you would like to help in any other way, we would love to hear from you as well.  We are a non-profit organization with no paid employees - we function completely on the energies of our volunteers.  We appreciate any help you can provide.  Thank you.
